]]>So you’ve made it past all-day nausea and food aversions to everything except hot chips, and now you find yourself with pregnancy cravings for foods that wouldn’t be your usual “go-to’’ snacks. Pregnancy is a bit of a rollercoaster, right?
It is really common for women to crave certain foods when they’re pregnant. Most cravings fall into the five categories of spicy, sweet, salty, cold, and chocolate. However, it’s also common to crave an odd combination of these foods.
In general, there is no real reason not to give in to these cravings providing you satisfy the craving with nutritious and healthy options. Focus on keeping down a balanced diet, pregnancy cravings and all, which will then help keep you and your baby healthy throughout the pregnancy.
To help you satisfy those pregnancy cravings, here are our top five healthy pregnancy meals that contain some of the best foods to eat while pregnant.
This comforting spicy red pasta with lentils from Minimalist Baker is sure to satisfy your spicy pregnancy cravings. Lentils are rich in iron, fibre, folate and protein, making them a great choice for healthy pregnancy meals.
Delivering on flavour, the secret to this plant-based and nutritious recipe is the sauce itself. Featuring a yummy base of garlic, carrots and tomatoes for flavour and spices such as red pepper flakes, basil, oregano and sea salt to give it that extra kick.
Mmmm … I want something sweet
Swap ordinary ice cream for ice cream made from one ingredient … a frozen banana! Check out this great recipe from Kitchn that shows you how to whip up your banana into the same soft-serve ice cream texture we all know and love.
As that bananas are a rich source of goodies, such as dietary fibre, carbohydrates, essential fatty acids, Vitamin C, Vitamin B-complex, and minerals, they are one of the best foods to eat while pregnant. This nutrient-dense ice cream can help in the healthy development of the foetus during pregnancy.
Alternatively, check out Not Enough Cinnamon’s recipe for banana cinnamon ice cream. It has a few extra ingredients but it’s sure to satisfy a sweet tooth.
Both of these recipes make great healthy pregnancy meals … erm, I mean desserts. Can’t stomach bananas right now? Frozen mango is just as delightful to satisfy those sweet pregnancy cravings!
Before you run straight for that bag of salty potato chips, consider making it a little healthier. Okay, a LOT healthier! Satisfy your salty craving with some quality corn chips and level the healthiness up by scooping up some fresh smashed avocado. Alternatively, skip the corn chips and whip up these amazing healthy carrot chips from A Spicy Perspective.
Avocados are one of the best foods to eat while pregnant, chock full of good fats, high in dietary fibre and a great source of folate and potassium. They are the ideal ingredient to add to your healthy pregnancy meals.
Ditch the sugar-filled ice blocks for some healthy, naturally sweetened DIY ice blocks that are high in Vitamin C, antioxidants, fibre, potassium and folate. Taste has a great recipe using blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and orange juice to make your own solution to the cold and crunchy cravings. In addition to satisfying your pregnancy cravings, kids will love this one as well!
I don’t know about you, but I crave chocolate nearly every day, even when I’m not pregnant. Chocolate is almost a universal craving and we all know it does wonders for lifting your mood.
Chocolate mousse is normally off the cards for pregnant women due to the raw egg component. However, Foodie Baker has come up with this amazing recipe for an egg-free chocolate mousse. Enjoy these decadent treats as you count the cream as part of your calcium for the day!
Although sometimes intense, pregnancy cravings are often laughed about after the fact, particularly when they are a little weird. Pickles and ice cream anyone?
However, if you find yourself craving non-food items such as dirt, corn starch, laundry detergent, ashes etc. you may be experiencing a medical condition called Pica. Resist the craving and see your doctor. These items are of course, unsafe for you to eat, but the urge may indicate a nutritional deficiency.

We’ve created a baby hospital bag checklist to ensure you are ready to go when the time comes. Just make sure to have it sorted by 35 weeks in case your baby comes earlier than expected.
Here’s what to pack in your baby hospital bag.

Loose comfortable clothes are your friend after giving birth. Although you will soon hold your baby in your arms, it’s unlikely your old favourite jeans are going to fit comfortably for a little while. During the day loose dresses, elasticized pants, and stretchy activewear are all great, as are button-up shirts and nursing tanks to make breastfeeding easier. For nighttime, comfort is queen, so you can’t go past a pyjama set with a stretchy waist. Make sure to tick the following items off your baby hospital bag checklist.

Even if this baby is not your first, every baby is different, so no one knows what your experience of breastfeeding will be like until the time comes. However, it’s important to be prepared for those first few days by ticking the following essentials off your baby hospital bag checklist.

Choosing a baby’s first clothes is one of the most exciting things about having a baby. However, we want baby to be comfortable, so ditch the complicated baby clothes and stick with the basics for now. It’s a good idea to bring a few different sizes into your baby hospital bag when it comes to baby clothes as you never really know what you’re going to get!

There are a few essential items that you don’t want to miss in your baby hospital bag that will make a big difference to the enjoyment of your stay!

Of course, there’s no point talking about what to pack in a hospital bag if you don’t have an actual bag. We love the Array Canvas Tote as it can be used long after you leave the hospital as a baby bag or everyday bag. Why do we love it? It’s a casual style for those who like to keep it simple and has handy internal pockets for organising all your bits and pieces.
Once you’ve gone through this hospital bag checklist and packed your baby hospital bag, pop your bag by the door so it’s ready to go.
Good luck sister, you’ve got this!

With this being one of the most special times in your life, and with the arrival of a new family member on the horizon, we know you’ll want to capture this precious time in life, so that you can cherish it for years to come.
Our customers share their amazing maternity photoshoot inspo everyday - here are five of our favourite shoots to help you with yours.
1) Location, Location, Location!
(@shanellesmith_ wearing The Wanderer Floral Chiffon Maternity Gown)
Let’s get the obvious out of the way, shall we?
If you want to nail your maternity photoshoot and feel your absolute best, it’s essential that you schedule the shoot in a location you’re comfortable.
This is especially important if you’re typically uncomfortable in front of the camera.
Taking your maternity photos in a location that you’re comfortable is key to getting that perfect shot.
Not to mention, you also need to consider your location in order to get the right aesthetic for your photos.
For example, taking photos on the beach versus taking them in the comfort of your home will have a much different feel.
Other potential locations for a maternity photoshoot can include:
The main concern? Find a spot that you feel comfortable and reflects your personal style aesthetic, and you’re off to a great start!
2) Dress The Part
(Tarryn wearing Confetti Shirred Maternity Dress. Image by @sallydugganphotography)
Okay, so you’ve picked a location that you feel comfortable in, but now the concern becomes what to wear.
Never fear, when it comes to maternity fashion, at Maive & Bo., we always have you covered with the most stylish maternity options.
In particular, our Willow Nursing and Maternity Wrap Dress is the perfect option if you want photos that give off a whimsical, soft and casual vibe.
The Wanderer Lace Maternity Gown is our favourite maternity dress for photoshoots and is great if you’re looking for a style that is more bohemian and feminine.
And, of course, the Confetti Dress always goes over well if you’re looking to highlight the bump in your photos.
Really, no matter what aesthetic you’re going for, if you want photos that are stunning and really make a statement, we strongly believe that dressing the part and feeling beautiful on the day of your photoshoot can really make a difference.
Let Maive & Bo lend a hand in the style department with gorgeous, easy-to-wear maternity fashion.
3) Nail The Pose
(@tahnee_kelland in our Confetti Shirred Maternity Dress. Image by @raisingflowers.photography)
You’ve got your pretty dress on, you’ve made it to the photoshoot location, but now you actually have to take the photos.
Oh boy, for some of us, this can be tricky.
How do we take maternity photos without looking painfully awkward?
Here’s the secret to nailing the pose during your maternity photoshoot: make it all about the bump.
If you’re not comfortable in front of a camera, look down lovingly at your bump. This makes for a stunning shot.
In addition, you can wrap your arms around the bump, take more candid styles photos that are from a distance, or take shots from the side of you looking off into the distance.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to use every shot. Get comfortable in front of the camera, make it all about the bump, and your nerves will likely melt away.
We just adore this off-beat image by Raising Flowers Photography. The flowers perfectly compliment the Confetti dress and this is the perfect pose if you're feeling camera shy!
4) Include Family Members
(@all.about.the.evans in The Wanderer Lace Maternity Gown)
Speaking of nerves, if you want to add something special to your shoot, we highly recommend including other family members in the photos.
In particular, your significant other is highly recommended.
Having someone with you will likely calm your nerves, you can interact with each other, and it also makes for some really intimate and beautiful photos.
And hey, if you really want to include the whole family, feel free to bring your other children into the shoot. Photos of siblings kissing your bump are bound to make even the toughest hearts melt.
Oh, and beloved pets are also always welcomed in maternity photoshoots in our eyes.
5) Find The Best Photographer
(Jessica in The Wanderer Lace Maternity Gown. Image by @bokehphotographybybree)
Lastly, it is extremely important that you take the time to find a photographer that you really love.
Not only is this important for ensuring the photographer understands your vision for the photoshoot, it’s also important to pick someone who makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
Once again, one of the biggest keys to a successful photoshoot is your comfort level. If your smile feels fake and forced, or you look tense and stressed, it’s not going to make for good photos.
Pick the right photographer and it can really help with that.
Our best advice for finding the right photographer?
Check out their previous work to get a feel for their aesthetic, and be sure to do some Instagram browsing. As a visual platform, Instagram is a hub for photographers to show off their work.
Plus, when you search for something like #maternityphotographer you might just discover the work of a photographer that really speaks to you and your style aesthetic.
Do your research, and we guarantee you’ll be rewarded.

]]>But don’t worry, we’ve got all the tips, tricks and outfits you need to know for the perfect maternity photoshoot, so you have nothing to stress about. We’ve also included seven photoshoot ideas to get those creative juices flowing.
Here are some quick tips:
There are so many maternity shoot ideas to create memorable photos - we’ve pulled together our top 7 creative maternity photoshoot ideas to get you started.
A charming idea for a maternity shoot is to get other family members involved. Photos of grandma, mum, and mum-to-be all lined up will make for a precious keepsake that you can pass down through the family.
If your maternity shoot is lining up with a holiday, why not take advantage? Have some funny photos comparing your pregnant belly to the large Halloween pumpkins. You could also wrap your belly with wrapping paper for Christmas or paint a colourful egg on it for Easter. These images can do double-duty as greeting cards or holiday postcards.
To make your photos extra special, why not take them somewhere that feels special to you, your family, or you and your partner? This could be the place you met, the spot where you got engaged, or anywhere else that you hold close to your heart. Including your loved ones is a beautiful way to bring meaningful locations to life.
Are you a couple of football fanatics? Or a family of film-buffs or master chefs? Whatever your interests and hobbies are, try incorporating them into the photo shoot – you’ll have heaps of things to use as props and lots of fun in the process!
There are few things as beautiful as the silhouette of a pregnant woman months or weeks away from giving birth. If you're interested in having a more sophisticated and artistic photoshoot, have your photographer capture your silhouette against a bright light or dramatic background. You don’t have to get full-monty if that’s not your thing; there are plenty of ways a good photographer can capture your silhouette while incorporating your maternity photoshoot dresses.
Love that golden hour glow? You're not alone. To have this golden hue in your photos, time your maternity shoot with those special hours right after sunrise or right before sunset.
Maternity photoshoots don’t have to be posed or staged. Sometimes the most precious photos are caught spontaneously – sharing a joke with your partner or a tender moment with your older children. Also, having your photographer come to your home can take the pressure off, leaving you to relax and enjoy the moment in familiar surroundings.
No matter what ideas you choose to incorporate in your maternity shoot, just be sure to make choices that make YOU happy. If you want something fun and silly, don't feel like you have to do something overly serious. If you want something more artful or elegant, don't feel as though it's wrong to bask in your own beauty. Do whatever feels right to you.
And of course, we couldn’t go without saying - you’ll get the best photos when you’re in a beautiful mood, so be sure to wear something that makes you feel amazing. We intentionally designed our maternity photoshoot dresses to make you feel at ease and enhance your special pregnancy glow - check out our collection below!

But what's the story behind the capsule? We answer some of our most asked questions and dive into what inspired the print and styles.
The Kasey x Maive Capsule
We've included four of our favourite pieces to span the nursing and maternity-wear lifecycle.

If you're head-over-heels for something, be quick! This is a limited run and the pieces run out when the fabric does.
Our chosen pieces include:

Queensland artist, Kasey Rainbow
If you haven't heard of Kasey Rainbow then do yourself a favour and jump on her Instagram page - @kasey.rainbow - for an absolute eye-full of happiness!
Kasey is a talented Queensland-based artist who lives and breathes colour, positivity and self-love.
A mum herself, there was no-one better to design a print that helped women look and feel amazing when they were expecting and beyond.
The inspiration behind the design
The print is everything we love about summer - bright, fresh and tropical with delicious colours and shapes that practically scream coconut sunscreen and tropical juices by the beach.
Noticing a trend in abstract florals and fun shapes, we set about briefing Kasey on creating something that our customers felt and looked amazing in. As for the finer details, we were all too happy to let Kasey run wild with her creativity and imagination.
Australian brands are stronger together
True, that!
Now more than ever, we understand the importance of working with and supporting Australian businesses and we are so thrilled to have the opportunity to do so with this collection.
Not only did we work with Kasey on the print design of these pieces, we were supplied shoes by local Queensland business Petit Barcelona (they are insanely comfortable), worked with local pregnant models (Nicola and Liz pictured) and a fab local crew to shoot these amazing images.
We remain committed to working with Queensland and/or Australian-based talent as much as is possible!

Creating a baby's room from scratch can be overwhelming - you might have so many nursery theme ideas and no idea where to start - SO we caught up with local Interior Stylist, Emma-rose Hopper, to show us how to simplify the process whilst creating a magical and inviting baby's room.
Hello! First of all let me start off by saying if you're reading this and you're an expecting or new mumma or daddy, congrats!
I’d love to share with you a few little tips that I hope you'll find helpful to creating a nursery.
1. Pick a Colour palette - don't be afraid to introduce colour!
For my baby boys room I opted for an unusual mix... A Toy Story theme with modern/boho accents. I managed to pull off this unusual combo. We installed white VJ board, which is an affordable way to jazz up the walls. We opted for half high, so we could bring in a bright colour above. It’s amazing how much a lick of paint can completely transform any space! The best thing about this is we can always change the colour above as the baby grows older.
I always say, don't be afraid to use colour! It can completely transform a space. If you're not sold, use a softer palette or when in doubt, go neutral.
If your renting, try using wall decals. There are so many affordable and stylish options out there! Try Miss Pie Designs or Little Rae Prints for sweet styles.
2. Create a mood board
Creating a mood board is a great way to start pulling together your nursery theme ideas. Try piecing items together (digitally) to see if you're on track towards your desired theme. It’s important to ensure all of the items relate and ensure you're happy with them all as a whole!
3. Comfort for mum!
A top must have for me was a comfortable nursing spot. Let’s be honest, if you're anything like me (especially the first few months), I spent a lot of time in my rocking chair... we became well acquainted. It’s so important to have a comfortable nursing spot, so make sure you choose this wisely. I also made sure to have a side table with a lamp or touch lamp for those late night and early morning stints.
In this image, rug from Rugtastic, Chair by Adairs, Wall Hanging by Freedom, Moon Cushion by Iron and Cub.
4. Budget and Shop Around.
Have a budget in mind! Make sure you get the big ticket items out of the way first. I like to look around for the most affordable option, and not just buy the first (for e.g.) change table I see. By doing this, it means I have more money to spend on other things!!
There’s so many second-hand bargains out there. I purchased an old, outdated cabinet for the nursery, and with a lick of paint it looks better than ever. Don't be scared to try this. Recycling furniture is one of the best ways you can be environmentally friendly.
I was also very lucky that my talented dad made the cot for my cousin when she had her baby years ago. And, again, with a few coats of paint we transformed a dark timber cot, to a new modern one. It’s so rewarding turning something old into something new.
Sleepy Eyes by Pretty in Pine, wooden toys by Happy Go Ducky, wooden letters by CMC Gold
5. Style it!
Put on some good music, and fluff around! Group your decor items together, try them in different spots in the room- on a dresser, on the side table, until you're happy.
One of my favourite things in the nursery is the herbs racks I purchased from Ikea and used as bookshelves. The best thing about these are that I can do a shelf shuffle as little or as often as I like. Also, hot tip - a great way to organise items or hide ugly pieces is to use baskets. These are cheap and are much better to look at than clutter or items that you need but don't match your scheme.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this read and can take something away from it! If you haven't tried doing a mood board, you can do this with any decor projects you have in the future. Have fun and happy decorating!

]]>But once you've organised catering, games and decorations, it's time to think about what you're going to wear on your special day. After all, everyone will want to see your blossoming bump and have a photo taken with the mum-to-be.
The perfect baby shower needs the perfect baby shower dress.
At Maive & Bo, baby shower dresses are our thing! We design styles to flatter the pregnant shape in colours and prints that pop (mind the pun). Not only will you look fab, we want you to feel amazing on your special day.
Maive & Bo's collection of baby shower dresses are designed in Australia, the styles are affordable and classically feminine - think floral maxi maternity dresses, lace maternity dresses and fitted maternity dresses in a range of colours and shapes to fit you beautifully.
]]>Arguably the second most important date of your pregnancy (right behind bub's due date) is that of your baby shower. Whether you're into something low key or pulling out all the stops - and nappy-related party games - your baby shower is all about you, your pregnancy and the excitement of welcoming a new bundle of joy into your life and community.
But once you've organised the catering, games and decorations, it's time to decide on what you're going to wear. After all, you're going to be the centre of attention and, most likely, the most photographed person on the day.
Well dear reader, baby shower dresses happen to be our thing here at Maive & Bo so sit back and read through our three baby shower dress styles that are not only perfect for photos, they're bound to have you looking and feeling the best you can on your special day.
Floral maxi maternity dresses, lace maternity dresses and fitted maternity dresses are our most asked-for baby shower dresses so we'll focus on these three styles in this article. No matter what, the most important thing when choosing your dress is to stay true to yourself and the look that you'll feel most comfortable in for your special day.
Floral prints are nothing if not romantic and wistful so it's no surprise maternity floral maxi dresses are our go-to for the ultimate baby shower dress.
Floral Maxi Dresses are perfect for a garden-party themed baby shower. Hold the party outside if possible and decorate with plenty of greenery, strings of fairy lights and mix-matched tea cups for that shabby-chic look.
We can't go past The Wanderer Chiffon Maternity Gown. Soft flowing florals and full-length shape make it perfect for the feminine mum-to-be with a dash of bohemian spirit. A button-down bodice, floaty sleeves and gorgeous ruffle hem means it perfectly shapes the pregnant belly. The bonus? It can be worn after pregnancy for your newborn shoot or special occasion.
The choice of expecting women with a true bohemian soul, a lace maternity dress is the perfect way to express your femininity whilst capturing romantic images to last a lifetime.
Lace Maternity Dresses are perfectly suited to a boho-themed baby shower. For the perfect bohemian theme, lay large rugs and mixed pillows around a low lying table filled with grazing plates, tea lights and loose greenery. Simply add your friends for the perfect day out.
Our pick is The Wanderer White Lace Maternity Gown for a bohemian-themed baby shower. Soft lace sleeves and a generously flowing skirt give it a whimsical feel that compliments and adjusts to your shape. Not only a baby shower favourite, this style is perfect for maternity photoshoots and can be worn after your baby has arrived for newborn shoots or special occasions.
You've got new curves and there's no better way to show them off at your baby shower than with a fitted maternity dress. Opt for fitted dresses with great colours of prints to ensure they're still occasion appropriate.
An on-trend fitted maternity dress is perfectly placed for a chic baby shower at the latest restaurant or bar. Book at a table and a group of friends and family to get together for an afternoon of canapes, mocktails and giggles and don't forgot to take as many photos as possible to remember the special day.
The Confetti Shirred Maternity Dress is the perfect fitted maternity dress for a chic, baby shower. Fully shirred throughout the body and featuring on-trend puff sleeves, this style hugs your bump whilst beautifully skimming your curves and the fun print just screams 'celebration.'
Whatever type of baby shower dress you choose and whatever your day holds, we know it will be incredibly special. Be sure to take 'all the photos' and enjoy every minute.

If you enjoyed this, Anna's website - www.strongsexymammas.com/ - is packed with other work-outs you can do at home - perfect for now and also later when you need to squeeze exercise around a sleeping baby.
So you’ve brought baby home and probably spent the first month on the couch gazing adoringly at the beautiful gift in your arms.
But as your baby starts to become more aware and interested in their surroundings, maybe you’re feeling you want to do more … but what? If it’s a nice day and you have a garden, babies love nothing more than watching leaves flutter in the breeze or shadows move across a wall. But with the seasons turning and many of us at home for the duration, it’s great to have a few activities to keep your baby (and yourself!) amused in-between nappies and feeds and nappies and nap time and nappies.
We’ve turned to our expert for advice - the wonderful Emma from @play_at_home_mummy - for activities you can do with your young baby at home using bits and pieces you probably already have. An extra big thank you to gorgeous Adaline who is our model baby in all of these images.
1. Black and White Ribbons
Emma says: "Black and white are great colours for small babies because they’re high contrast. Babies see and focus on high contrast colours more easily than other colours, and also focus on circles more readily than any other picture/shape. They can also only focus on things around 30cm in front of their faces.
30cm is roughly that distance from the mother’s breast to her face, and babies focus on circles more readily as it enables them to find their mums breast more easily. Mother’s nipples will also darken in pregnancy to make the contrast between the nipple and breast greater, in order for the baby to focus on and find it! How amazing is nature?!!"
We love this wooden activity gym from Kmart - you'll see how versatile it is for a range of activities. Emma has created a baby safe space with a soft plat mat, a thick textured rug or lambskin and some acrylic mirror tiles attached to the wall. IKEA have something similar. The acrylic is a safe option for babies so they can't hurt themselves when they progress to whacking everything later.
2. Ribbons and Bells
After you've had fun with the ribbons, you might try adding bells.
Emma says "This would be great for babies up to about 4 months (just be wary of the bells as a choking hazard if they have begun mouthing).
Although babies can’t intentionally kick the bells at this point, when they involuntarily kicks their legs and hears the bells, it creates a connection between the action and noise. As they grow and develop more control over her movements, they will start to do this on purpose, and so begin to learn about cause and effect.
Babies learn best through sensory play - touching, hearing, tasting etc, and an activity like this, even for a baby this young (Adaline is 4 weeks here) stimulates the senses, in this case, her sense of sound."
3. Reading with Babies
Even from a very young age, babies love books and being read to. You might feel silly, but don't. The rhythm of your voice (soothing at any time) and brightly coloured pictures sets them up for language skills down the track and a life-long love of reading.
You can read one on one (a great way to give your baby extra attention, especially if you are otherwise busy in the day) or do as Emma has done here and use books at tummy time.
Emma says "Using books as a stimulus during tummy time ... has vastly improved the amount of time Adaline will happily be on her tummy, and it’s also improved the strength in her neck as she more readily holds it up to look at the books!
When looking for books to read with Adaline, I look for ones that:
Books Babies Love:
Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell
That's Not My ... Series by Usborne Touchy Feely Books
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Hairy Maclary by Lynley Dodd
Miffy by Dick Bruna
4. Bobbing Balloons
Here's that activity gym again! Seriously, this will be $18 well spent. AND Kmart will deliver it to you. This activity is a fun challenge for grabbing babies from about 4 months old.
Emma says: "The water gives the balloon weight, and the elastic means that it ‘bobs’ up and down when grabbed. Adeline loved exploring the cool texture of the water-filled balloon.
The water in the balloon means that the balloon is much less likely to pop than if it was filled with air, and makes it a great sensory experience as it’s cool and squishy to touch! I used hat elastic from Spotlight - it’s what I’ve been hanging her other toys and mobiles with!
This activity develops hand-eye coordination skills, and visual tracking (as the balloon bobs up and down)."
SAFETY - Never give a balloon to a mouthing child with teeth, as sharp objects will pierce the balloon. Also make sure baby’s nails are short before doing this. Don’t use a water balloon - a regular balloon filled with water is much less likely to pop (water balloons are made thinner than regular ones). Supervise your child constantly during this activity. Be aware that balloons pose a choking hazard and take the necessary precautions.
5. Baby Face Frames
Emma has used frames from IKEA for this simple activity, but you could also just stick the pictures to a wall or window.
Emma says "Babies are naturally drawn to faces because they learn so much about social interaction through watching people’s expressions and hearing people talk so I thought I would print out some close ups of our faces (mum, dad, sisters and herself) for her to look at during floor time!
Adaline loved them she was smiling at them and chatting away. They’re great for looking at when she’s on her tummy as they encourage her to lift her head to build her neck and abdominal muscles."
6. Baby Sensory Bag
These are activities are proof that children don't need expensive toys to be entertained (something to remember even as they get older). Sensory bags are brilliant for whatever you've got around the house. As your baby grows, you can even make sensory bottles out of plastic water bottles to carry out and about - excellent for the car.
You can create themed bags - Under the Sea, Space, Rainbow - or just keep it simple.
Emma says "All I did was put Pom Poms, water, blue food dye and glitter into a zip lock bag!
There are heaps of different things you can fill these with, and it’s also a great way for them to explore colour and texture while they have tummy time!"
SAFETY
All these activities have been reproduced with permission. If you love these and want more, or you have older children too, be sure to check out Emma's Instagram @play_at_home_mummy for literally hundreds of amazing ideas.

At worst, you’ll get dressed up and spend a morning or afternoon in your garden with lots of laughs. At best? Great memories and some wonderful photos to share with family and friends.
I actually did my own a few years ago because between selling a house and moving interstate I had no energy to organise a professional one. The afternoon lingers in my memory as one of my favourite times as my husband directed me into poses and I tried to not get too close to the duck pond. The best photo? Me falling backwards into a rosemary bush.
Let’s get started!
Choose your background
Sometimes professional photos look like they have been taken in a lush forest or a light filled studio. The reality? Clever cropping and positioning.
A soft and dreamy white background could be a sheet hanging up in-front of a window. Even a wrinkled sheet (who needs to be ironing sheets??).
That lush forest background could be the hedge in your backyard. Mallory and I went outside to the reserve behind the office and gave it a go.
You can see that these plants are nothing special.
But with some clever positioning in the leafy greens and a filter or two … Voila!
Though I think Hannah @hashtag_hannahcole has done a much better job in her beautiful garden.
What’s the time?
Daylight is at its most flattering during the ‘golden hour’, in the late afternoon before sunset. Overcast days are also your friend as the clouds act as a natural diffuser. But try to avoid bright sunny days for outside shots or you’ll find yourself squinting into the camera.
Indoors/Outdoors
Do you have a feature wall? Some beautiful windows? Or even an interesting brick wall? The ordinary can look extraordinary with a little imagination. This is Mallory posing in our office kitchen ...
But you can't tell...
Amelia from @luxe_everyday rocks a painted wall...
While @talistomatoes shows us that beauty is everywhere ... even in bricks.
Get Glam
Spend time on your hair and makeup and choose an outfit that makes you feel really special. Just because you’re doing this yourself, there is no reason to skimp on the preparations. Bright colours or prints pop in photographs, especially on a plain background. Our Harlow Maternity & Nursing Wrap Dress in Mint is a popular choice for good reason.
Or, contrast a bright or busy background with a dress in a single colour. A textured fabric, like our Midi Lace Maternity Dress in White adds extra interest.
Be Yourself
Most of all, our message here is to enjoy yourself, relax and have fun. The best photos are not necessarily the most perfect, but the ones with a story. If you've just planted a tree in your garden, why not include that in the photo so you can show your child how the tree grows up with them.
We'd love to see what you come up with! Tag us on instagram (#maiveandbo) and share your works of art.

Need some help coming up with your maternity style?
No problem! These 6 celeb ladies are going to show us how to master maternity style like true pros. Prepare to be inspired.
1) Ashley Graham
Image via Who What Wear
If there’s one future mama out there who knows a thing or two about embracing your curves and showing off the bump, it is most definitely Ashley Graham.
In particular, with this look, we love how she’s making use of a form fitted knit sweater dress. While we might often gravitate towards the looser and more flowing fabrics during pregnancy, this look just proves that form fitted dresses can look like a million bucks on a future mama.
Plus hey, it doesn’t hurt that she’s picked a dress that flatters her coloring, she’s dressed it up with some cute (comfortable) boots, and she’s thrown on a matching cardigan to give the look a very chic and sophisticated feel.
2) Megan Markle
Image via Vanity Fair
Do we even need to tell you which celeb mama is reigning supreme in the style department?
Oh yes, it is without a doubt Megan Markle. Love her or hate her, this lady knows a thing or two about dressing the bump.
Not once did she sacrifice her style because of her pregnancy, and she looked elegant throughout. Whether it was classy dresses, beautiful coats, or elegant evening gowns, she looked radiant.
In particular, two things we think she really excelled at her were emphasizing her waist with belts and flattering dresses, while also adding in a very soft feminine feel to her looks. This soft, pretty aesthetic is very much in line with the maternity wear that we put out at Maive & Bo., and we absolutely believe it’s the most flattering look for pregnant ladies.
3) Ann Hathaway
Image via InStyle
Anne Hathaway is one of those celebrities that just feels relatable. Whether it’s her big smile or down-to-earth personality, she’s a celebrity that people gravitate to, and never has that been more obvious than during her pregnancy.
Cool, laid back and comfortable, Anne Hathaway proves that both comfort and style are available to all of us while pregnant.
In particular, with this look, we love that she’s kept everything very simple: grey knit tunic, thick leggings, classic leather jacket, and basic flat boots.
It’s the perfect combination, right?
We think so, and really, this isn’t a hard look to accomplish. Throw a cool leather jacket over any top or dress, and you instantly gain a style edge. Trust us, you’ll see.
4) Blake Lively
Image via Elle
Oh Blake, pregnant or not, this woman can do no wrong style wise.
Constantly pushing boundaries, setting trends, and all while looking great doing it, if you haven’t yet let Blake Lively’s maternity style inspire you, you’re in for a treat.
From the red carpet to casually strolling down the street, everything about this woman’s style is on point. In particular, we’re loving her use of oversized capes for a sophisticated look when the temperatures drop.
In addition, we love that she hasn’t shied away from embracing her figure during this special time. She’s showing off the bump, and she’s doing it like an absolute pro. Don’t you agree?
5) Shay Mitchell
Image via Daily Mail
Whether you’re pregnant or not, we always love a good maxi dress for a look that screams relaxed, cool, and feminine.
In particular, with Shay Mitchell’s maternity style, we love that she’s kept the outfit very simple. Just some easy-to-wear strappy black flat sandals, and a pair of sunnies.
While this might not seem like the most standout look on this list, it proves to us that maternity style doesn’t have to be complicated.
5) Amy Schumer
Image via Growing Your Baby
We absolutely love this photo of Amy Schumer, because it just goes to show that some days, when you’re carrying around a tiny human in you, it’s totally okay to throw on your favorite sweats and a comfy sweater.
She might not be dressed up, but Amy still glows and radiates pure joy.
You have that in you, too, no matter what you’re putting on your body. Don’t forget that.
]]>And lots of it.
Even if you’re the biggest fan of Vitamin D, if you’re expecting a little one, there’s no denying that carrying extra weight through the hot summer months can have you sweaty, uncomfortable, and not at your best.
Lucky for you, we’ve got all the tips to help keep you from spending your entire summer indoors, cranking the air conditioner.
Let’s keep you cool with cute maternity swimwear and these summer pregnancy tips:
1) Let the water take your weight
The easiest (and most fun!) way to cool down in the summer? Taking a dip in the ocean, of course.
Not only will swimming lower your overall temperature, the weight of the water helps support your sore muscles and aching back for a soothing and relaxing way to ease that pesky internal furnace.
Plus hey, we almost guarantee you’ll leave the water feeling refresh and energized, which is never a bad thing when you’re carrying around your little one.
If you’re looking for a new cute swimsuit that flatters your pregnant body and makes you feel great, feel free to check out our new maternity swimwear.
2) Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
If we could offer one piece of advice to expecting mamas who are carrying during the summer, it would be this: hydrate.
While you might not need another excuse to visit the bathroom at this stage of your pregnancy, hydration will not only cool you down and make you feel better in the heat, it’s also important for the health of both you and your baby.
Aim to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day. This can, of course, fluctuate depending on your individual needs, but in general, drinking as much water as possible is never a bad idea when you’re pregnant.
If you’re struggling with drinking more water, get yourself a reusable bottle that you can keep with you throughout the day, and you’ll likely find that regular hydration is a piece of cake.
3) Stock up on frozen snacks
If you’ve yet to discover the brilliance of having frozen fruit on hand when you’re pregnant, you’ll thank us later for this tip.
Nutritious, easy for grab-and-go snacking, and perfectly cooling, we highly recommend frozen grapes, berries, and mangoes all make their way into the freezers of pregnant ladies.
4) Scoop up some maternity dresses
While it would certainly be nice to sit in a maternity swimsuit all day, while sipping on water, and snaking on frozen fruit, this isn’t exactly the most realistic way to spend your summer.
The solution?
Make sure you have a good selection of summer maternity dresses that you feel comfortable and confident in.
Here at Maive & Bo. we have a wide selection of maternity dresses that are light, airy, and just as stylish as any non-maternity dress. In particular, for hot weather, we highly recommend checking out our best-selling maternity wrap dresses.
In addition, no matter where you do your maternity shopping, keep your eyes open for pieces made from cotton and bamboo. These fabrics will help keep your internal body temperature down.

While pregnancy and bringing new life into the world is, of course, a beautiful thing, it can also, at times, be a challenging season of life, especially in the hot summer months. We hear you loud and clear, ladies, and that’s why we’ve worked hard to come up with stylish maternity swimsuits and maternity dresses that are specifically designed to help keep you cool in the summer.
And so, with that in mind, hit the beach in a new fab maternity swimsuit, pack some frozen fruit for the trip, and don’t forget to hydrate.
Take these tips to heart, look and feel your best with Maive & Bo., and we’ve got a feeling your summer pregnancy will unfold beautifully.

What you’ll need:
Step 1: Measure your wire to fit the shape of your head. Secure the ends with floral tape.
Wind your greenery around your wire. Secure the ends with floral tape where needed. If you’re going for a fuller look, choose greenery with larger leaves or skip this step all together if you’d rather focus on florals.
Step 2: Prepare some mini floral bunches. Take approximately three blooms and affix their stems with floral tape.
Step 3: Take your mini floral bunches and attach them to your crown with floral tape or craft wire. Make sure you attach your blooms facing one direction and lay more blooms over the stems to create a fuller look. You can also add some statement pieces towards the end.
Step 4: Style your hair and arrange for the perfect look!
And there you have it, your very own DIY flower crown. Even better, why not stock up on blooms at your local flower market, print out these instructions and get all of your friends making their own flower crowns as a fun baby shower activity?
If you need something pretty and feminine to match your flower crown, we love these bohemian-bloom inspired dresses for your baby shower:

The reason for this is that mum is now well into her pregnancy and is probably feeling comfortable … well, comfortable enough compared to the nausea of the first three months and the heavy load of the last month. This also gives her time to sort through her baby shower gifts and work out what she still needs to purchase before the baby arrives.
If you leave the question of ‘’when do you have a baby shower’’ too late and end up having it later in the pregnancy, there is a risk that the baby might arrive before the actual baby shower.
Although location is a key element to a boho themed baby shower, it doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive as this theme works really well in nature. A shady area under a tree in your garden works amazing, as does a nice area in your local park, community centre or church grounds.
The Soul Nook Collective in Marburg, (less than an hour from Brisbane) has this concept down to a T. They create beautiful boho themed bell tent picnics for all occasions on the old church grounds. I can personally vouch that this experience is divine!

It’s always a good idea to send the invites around six weeks before the actual baby shower. This gives guests plenty of time to shop for gifts, lock the date in their schedule, and maybe even organise a babysitter.
When it comes to the actual invitations themselves, think white or neutral for the card with pretty, feminine boho features such as flowers and soft colours. The beautiful boho themed baby shower card below can be found on Etsy.
A boho themed baby shower is all about feeling relaxed. Think pale pinks and whites, florals, bare wood and elements of nature.
To achieve this, begin by using cushions, blankets and tapestries for that lovely boho feel. Old curtains and thrift store purchases tie in with the boho theme well and you can use them with some cushions on the ground for a wonderfully relaxed vibe. Alternatively, drape them over a rattan chair or old sofa. Height can be added to your decorations by draping them up high.
Every boho baby shower needs a chair for the mother to be to rest her tired (and probably swollen) feet. A rattan chair draped with a rug and adorned with florals make a stunning throne for the guest of honour and also doubles as a great photo prop.
Once your larger items such as seating, tables, bell tent or even a teepee are in place, it’s time to really put it together with smaller boho baby shower elements. Think fairy lights strung between trees or in jars, flowers and greenery placed around the table.
Bare wood can be used as food platters and you can’t go past hessian as an inexpensive table runner that ties the bohemian theme together nicely.

Picnic style finger foods and grazing platters are just perfect for the relaxed vibe of a boho themed baby shower. This chilled vibe means you can be free to keep it simple with platters of easy sandwiches, cheese, nuts, olives and fruit, as well as healthy bliss balls for something sweet.
Vintage glasses and decanters from the thrift store look amazing in a boho themed baby shower. Use a vintage decanter to serve Kombucha or a non-alcoholic beverage and decorate the table around your vessel with sprigs of gum leaves or even some fresh rosemary or lavender. If you can’t get hold of vintage, mason jar glasses from the two-dollar store look pretty fantastic filled with a non-alcoholic punch as well!
When it comes to your boho baby shower cake, you don’t need to go all out for this theme. A rather ‘’naked’’ cake dressed up with natural elements on top fits this theme perfectly, as does a simple sponge cake with fruit and cream.
