It's no secret that when you are pregnant you are tiiiired and often the last thing you want to do is go out at night. But that doesn't means you need to ditch date nights! There are plenty of cosy at home date ideas to help you make the most of this time with your significant other. Plus, you don’t need to rely on expensive bells and whistles or that over-used Netflix subscription to find a little romance. Here are our top five pregnancy-friendly date night ideas for fun times without leaving the house.
1. Have an indoor picnic
You don’t need the park to have a picnic – just grab a basket and head for the living room. Keep it cheap and cheerful by stocking up on snacks from the supermarket - think beautiful fresh fruit, crusty bread and vegie sticks with dip. With a full basket, head to the lounge room, or deck or patio, dim the lights, lay your blanket and throw some cushions around. For a little extra ambience, string some fairy lights and enjoy a relaxed and romantic evening.
2. Set up a home spa
Enjoy an indulgent spa experience without the hefty price tag. Start by turning your bathroom into an at-home wellness retreat – draw a scented bubble bath, light some aromatic candles, put on some relaxing music and slip into some comfy robes and slippers. Then choose your treatments -- give each other DIY hand, back and scalp massage treatments, exfoliate one another with a body scrub or dry-brushing session, or simply slather on some fancy face masks and sit back and relax.
3. Have a mocktail night
Used to be that all that was on offer for pregnant ladies was mineral water fancied up with slices of lime. We're happy to say those days are OVER! There are so many great alcohol-free options these days - what better way to spend an evening mixing up a storm to find your favourites! A quick google search for "alcohol free cocktails" will generate heaps of recipes and ideas - everything from gorgeous Cranberry and Pomegranate Sangria to non-alcholic botanicals such as Seedlip or Altina Drinks.
4. Get competitive with a cook-off
Add some friendly competition to date night by challenging each other to an at-home cook-off. Either choose a course to create or pick a main ingredient and see how creative your culinary skills can get. The best bit? You’ll both get to sample the end results, so everyone is a winner in this competition.
5. Make your own outdoor cinema
A warm summer evening is the perfect time to turn your outdoor space into a cute at-home cinema. Set up your patio or garden with whatever furnishings you have to hand – deckchairs, rugs, bean bags or even a tent will do. Then add plenty of cushions and a couple of cosy blankets for when the temperature dips. Set the mood with fairy lights or candles, then bring out your laptop or rig up the projector. Alternatively, just position your TV towards the nearest window. Add some popcorn (don't forget the ice-cream!) and then hit play on your favourite romantic movie.
