Winter maternity nursing dress

Hi lovelies! Hope you’re enjoying the last month of Autumn.

Maive & Bo Australia had a major shakeup last month when we partnered with The Iconic Australia to stock our line. It was pretty humbling to be recognised as an Australian maternity brand by one of the biggest players in Australian online shopping (unfortunately this doesn’t mean I get a special discount… I checked). Also, this month we put the final touches on a gorgeous new maternity dress for large busts which we’re hoping to release in the next couple of days. Finally, I’m sharing some of my favourite moments from our Winter photoshoot last week – check it out if you’re keen to see what will be online soon!

Firstly, after talking to so many of our gorgeous customers, we realised that maternity wear in Australia was in need of a flattering pregnancy dress for large busts. Now, I’m not one to boast a significant bust size, however when I’m pregnant or breastfeeding, I could literally give Dolly Parton a run for her money. Enter the Knot Dress.

Big bust maternity dress

Designed in a super-soft, stretchy and breathable cotton blend fabric, the Knot will see you through work days, special events such as weddings and baby showers or can be dressed down with flat boots for winter weekends – talk about versatile!

Maternity winter dress big bust

What’s more, this dress looks amazing on post-baby bodies and, like our Harlow wrap dresses, can be worn after pregnancy with easy nursing access.  The Navy Oriental will be available this week and we’ll also have it in grey shortly.

Now onto the fun stuff…

Last week we shot some of the new dresses we’ll be receiving during May (some of them this week!). Now we all know that working-mum life doesn’t always go smoothly and after a night of compulsive coughing, my little girl (4) found herself on her first photoshoot.

My little photographer in training :)

 Mum life!

Luckily, I had organised an amazing model, photographer and make-up artist who weren’t phased by a sleep deprived mother and spluttering four-year-old so the shoot went beautifully and we got some amazing pics. Below are some I took on my iPhone. Images feature the new Luella in Pink/Grey combo, Knot dresses in Navy Oriental and Grey and the Long Sleeve Harlow Dresses in Dusty Rose and Navy Floral.

What’s happening at Maive & Bo Australia?

Hi lovelies! Mallory here from Maive & Bo Australia.

There’s been heaps going on in the store last month so I wanted to quickly fill you on new arrivals in pregnancy clothes and breastfeeding wear, a special little number arriving this week and an update on our boutique in the United States.

Firstly, I’m sure you’ve seen some of our new pregnancy clothes popping up over the last few weeks including the super sassy Chloe Long-sleeve Maternity Dress. This dress has been one of our fastest selling new styles since the original Chloe in stripe and our customers are wearing it to everything from date nights to baby showers and winter events. We love the gorgeous burgundy/wine colour which is perfect for Autumn and Winter.

maive and bo pregnancy shop

We also released our oh-so-popular Harlow Maternity and Nursing Wrap Dress in two new fabrics – Autumn Dream which is the most gorgeous mustard floral print (and who doesn’t LOVE mustard dresses right now!!) and the Vision which we brought out as a special Easter fabric. Both have been really popular and we’ve quickly had to order more sizes so if you’re unable to find yours, hold tight it will be here soon!

While I’m talking about new arrivals, we’re releasing a long sleeve Harlow Maternity and Nursing Wrap this week with EXTRA bust coverage thanks to feedback from our customers. Adding long sleeve to the Harlow really gives it an extra bohemian vibe and we’ve paired that style with the most perfect new navy floral fabric (yes, we love navy over here!). If all goes to plan, we’ll be releasing this dress by the end of the week and we’re sooo excited to see what you think of it - here's a sneaky peek...

Some of you may know we branched into the United States last month so I wanted to give you a little update on how that’s going. With the US going into Spring, our American customers are loving the Harlow pregnancy clothes in all the Summer colours such as the Dusty Rose, Vision and White. We’re also testing some cute new nursing styles that I think you guys are going to love come next Spring.

Well that’s it from me! We do have a very exciting announcement coming soon that I’m busting to tell you but am sworn to secrecy (I hate keeping secrets!). I’ll let you know as soon as I get the green light and thank-you for being amazing.

Love, Mallory

But finding the right maternity clothes online can be difficult. Here’s a wrap-up of some of our most popular cheap maternity clothes that are prefect for your special day.

Maternity wrap dress

Maive & Bo’s Harlow Maternity Wrap Dresses (link to products) are one of our most popular baby shower dresses in Australia simply because they’re so flattering on all body shapes plus they come in a range of fabrics to suit the theme and nature of your baby shower.

Another reason they’re so popular? These wrap dresses will not only cover your bump throughout the entire pregnancy but they’re easy to use breastfeeding dresses as well and, unlike many of the other styles of maternity wear available on the market, they don’t look like maternity dresses once you’ve had the baby so you’ll always be able to wear them time and time again.

Tip: style with a floral crown for extra princess effect!

Off-the-shoulder maternity dress

Definitely one for the stylish mum, pregnancy dresses don’t come cuter than our Chloe maternity dresses. It’s no secret that off-the-shoulder is the trend of the year and our Chloe dresses have certainly been doing the rounds at baby showers and other formal events all over Australia.

Made from a soft cotton-blend, this maternity dress is made to last your entire pregnancy with generous side-rouching. Plus it’s available in stripes (who doesn’t love stripes!) and black for great versatility. The Chloe stripe off-the-shoulder maternity dress has been our store’s best selling maternity dress in Australia and is fast becoming a hot favorite in the United States.

The white maternity dress

Another maternity wear trend that’s becoming very popular in Australia is the white maternity dress as there’s nothing quite as ethereal and beautiful as a mum-to-be in white.

As well as our Harlow maternity wrap dress in white preppy, Maive & Bo also designed the Grace dress to suit this very purpose. So versatile is this dress, it can be worn during and after pregnancy plus is breastfeeding-friendly. Many of our gorgeous girls love to wear this dress for maternity photoshoots as well as baby showers and even to the office with a light jacket.

What to wear when you're nursing a newborn

What to wear when you're nursing a newborn

What to wear when you’re nursing

So you’re in your last trimester or you’ve just had bub and it’s time to start looking for nursing and breastfeeding wear. It can be difficult to know what you need, especially if it’s your first baby and you’re as clueless I was about how much they actually need to feed and how quickly they need to access the breast when hungry.

A few days after the birth of my first baby, Emily, I quickly realised that I was completely underprepared when it came to breastfeeding clothes and my dreams of hopping back into my old wardrobe were totally unrealistic.

The second time around, I was much more prepared and found some great nursing buys in Australia, from the local shops and online. Here are my top three must haves to feed your new baby with comfort, ease and style.

  1. Nursing tank top

Before anything else, stock up on nursing tanks - they can work in replacement of a bra, as pyjamas or under your day clothes.  They’re not all that pretty but damn are they convenient and comfortable.

Tips. Wear under your usual tops or jumpers, then simply pull the top up and unclip the fast to feed. Also try wearing them in replacement of pyjamas as the last thing you feel like doing at 2am is screwing around to try and get your boobs out.

How many nursing tanks do you need? Well I bought five for my last bub and allocated some for sleeping and others for day use so I didn’t feel like I was hanging out in my pyjamas all day. They can be expensive but I found some great double packs from H&M.

nursing tank top Australia

  1. Nursing bra

For when you can’t really wear a nursing tank or you need a little more support. Be warned, these are not cheap, but totally worth the investment. It can be hard to choose a size if you’re buying before you’ve had the baby. My advice, don’t buy one just after your milk has come in – often your breast size will fluctuate dramatically in the first month or so.

Great Australian nursing bras such as Bonds or well-known Berlei are great for your everyday use and can be bought at Big W or Myer. Or treat yourself to one of the gorgeous styles from Hot Milk – it’s so lovely to have something gorgeous and special for yourself when you’re giving so much to the baby.

Nursing bra australia

  1. Button down dresses

Dresses with buttons, stretchy pull-aside fabric, a zip at the front, off-shoulder styles and wrap dresses are all great options for breastfeeding. But let’s face it, most fashion brands don’t make dresses with nursing mothers in mind so it can be a bit of search.

We’re always expanding our product range and are working on new nursing dresses to fulfil these needs. But in the meantime, many mothers are LOVING our wrap dresses and crossover dresses for flattering, breastfeeding styles. These can also be dressed up if you’ve got a special occasion, like a wedding, where you need to feed your baby easily whilst looking gorgeous.

How to {still} feel sexy when you're pregnant

By Mallory Welch
on September 24, 2016

Sexy pregnant

My first pregnancy was a challenging experience.

Once a fit, confident and body-proud woman, I was really affected by the lack of control I had on my changing body shape, not to mention months of morning sickness and hormones.

Don't get me wrong. I was thrilled and blessed to be expecting but my self-confidence was quickly waning.

When I fell pregnant the second time, I decided to do things differently. While I couldn't change my body, I found other ways to feel sexy while pregnant and make it a positive and exciting experience.

1. Walk everyday

Any kind of exercise will make you feel sexy (inside and out!). While helping keep excess weight gain down, it also releases endorphins that trigger a positive feeling in the body.

I made it my goal to walk at least 20 minutes per day either along the beach or in a local nature reserve.

2. Embrace the changes

I see many pregnant women wearing baggy clothing that only serves to make them look bigger than they are.

Clothes that hug and accentuate your new curves will help you feel and look amazing. Look for outfits that show off your best features or tie in at your waist and show off your bump.

3. Don't drop your usual beauty routine

Anytime I need a little boost, I book myself in for the works: mani/pedi, eyelash and brow tint and hair colour.

Don't have time? Stock up on products like dry shampoo and BB cream for an instant polished look or treat yourself to some new perfume and spritz yourself everyday (even if you're at home all day!)

4. Schedule a date night

No, you wont be able to go out boozing.  But a special dinner or movie with your partner will do wonders for your confidence and relationship during pregnancy.

Spend some extra time getting ready and choose a special outfit that does wonders for your new figure.

5. Comfortable pregnancy underwear

Feeling comfortable is so important to boosting your confidence and feeling sexy when pregnant. A gorgeous bra/undies set is a great place to begin.

I loved Hot Milk Maternity and Cake Maternity when I was pregnant. They're not cheap but damn do you get your money's worth, especially if you're planning on breastfeeding after bub arrives.

Sometimes mums get left out of the pregnancy process with all of the focus on the well-being of the unborn baby. While I agree this is the priority, I do believe it is so important for the mother to feel sexy and confident in herself in order to be the best mother she can be.

Let me know your tips on how to feel sexy when pregnant.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES - Maive & Bo's SS16 photo shoot

BEHIND-THE-SCENES - Maive & Bo's SS16 photo shoot

I'm beyond excited to show you a behind-the-scenes of Maive & Bo's maternity shoot for our Spring and Summer pregnancy and breastfeeding range. This collection has been designed and produced with so much love and a lot of testing on pregnant bumps of all shapes and sizes plus breastfeeding women.

Taylor (our stunning model) is 37 weeks pregnant in all the shots so, if you're pregnant, you can rest-assured that you'll be able to wear these dresses throughout your entire pregnancy and beyond - you'll see I've made them breast-feeding friendly for a reason!

Oh and true to my word, I've pulled a few strings to keep them affordable - so you're not shelling our for something you may only wear for a short time.

Check out our little promo vid - any feedback, I'd love to hear, so please don't hesitate to comment below or shoot me an email x

Let me talk you through the range..

The first dress you'll see is a summer take on the Bettina dress - something you'll be able to dress up or down for the office or corporate events. The shorter sleeve and length make it a perfect maternity dress for the warmer months. Team with a blazer and flats for an office maternity look or a waterfall cardigan and sandals for a lunch out with friends.

Next is my favourite maternity dress style - the off-shoulder black and white stripe dress. This is a stunning piece and perfect for everything from weddings to baby showers or simply looking extra-glam during your day-to-day. Perfect for the entirety of your pregnancy, off-shoulder is also a great breastfeeding dress - put a strapless underneath for ultimate comfort or make use of the sturdier fabric through the breast area.

Next are my gorgeous hi/low dresses. Personally, this style is something I LOVE to wear myself - even when not pregnant. They're great for those super hot days when you just want to throw something on and still look chic. I especially like them because you can eat a huge lunch and no-one's the wiser. I chose blush because... well, who doesn't everyone love a blush maxi dress right now? And this sea blue is just perfect for summer.

Finally my formal maternity dress. I've been so inspired by this neckline and I finally decided to use it for this dress to answer the call for maternity and breastfeeding dresses that can be worn to formal events such as weddings, baby showers, corporate events and date nights. This highly-flattering maternity dress is not only on-trend, but oh so elegant. It also looks amazing on non-pregnant women - so it's one you can keep.

I hope you love these dresses as much as I do and please don't hesitate to email me if you have any feedback on the range or questions about the styles -

I want to produce what you need, so if you think I'm missing anything then put in your requests and I'll work on including them in future collections.

Love Maive & Bo x
